Musicians:
Asaf Ophir, woodwinds and vocals
Marty Eggars, piano
Dan Fabricant, upright bass
Asaf Ophir began his professional career in Israeli musicals, playing woodwinds in some of the most distinguished theaters in his home country. Having moved to the United States in 2014, Ophir performs throughout the Bay Area in many Jewish, Middle Eastern and Balkan productions, as well as classical and jazz. Throughout his career he has shared the stage with artists such as Miri Mesika, Avi Kushnir, Rana Farhan, Ustad Mahwash and Barbra Streisand. The San Francisco Chronicle writes: "Asaf Ophir gives the clarinet the timbre of a trumpet, then a violin, then a raspy scream... the instrument's wail almost becomes too plaintive and beautiful to bear." Marty Eggers' music career began in Sacramento, where as a teenager he helped found the Sacramento Ragtime Society in 1982. Marty plays piano, string bass and tuba. He lives in Oakland with his wife, ragtime pianist and drummer Virginia Tichenor. They perform around the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, including monthly at the American Legion in Larkspur.
Daniel Fabricant may be the most versatile bassist in San Francisco—and the most in demand. Playing upright or electric, he adapts to a wide range of musical settings, from intimate chamber groups to sprawling dance bands and Latin ensembles. Fabricant has performed internationally with Piaf! The Show, Michael Feinstein, Betty Buckley, Joan Rivers, Spencer Day, Ann Hampton Callaway, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, and Petula Clark, among others. In the Bay Area, he regularly plays with Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Rupa and the April Fishes, and Redwood Tango
Ensemble. He has appeared at A.C.T., SFJAZZ, Yoshi's, The Freight and Salvage, Feinstein's; New York City venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Café Carlyle and Carnegie Hall.
